As a dancer, performing is deeply personal because it spotlights not only your artistic growth but also your personal growth.
ASTC intentionally challenges artists to take risks, to be vulnerable, to breakthrough the conventional. The creative process involves the collaboration from artists of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds in merging their art, culture, experiences, and perspectives to create SYNERGY, a single story and a powerful vision that blends the strengths from the group.
In doing this, our aim is to inspire and empower our audiences to take bold risks in their own lives to create the impact they want to see in themselves, their communities, and the world.
auditions for multi-hyphenate artists

Alternative Synergy is holding its first audition for multi-hyphenate artists working across movement, acting, and embodied storytelling.
Our work centers movement as the primary language and treats character as something lived in the body — not performed on top of it.
This audition is evaluative, not instructional.
Artists are not expected to be familiar with our method.
This audition is for artists who:
identify as dancers, actors, or both
are interested in embodied character work
are curious about integrating movement, text, and presence
want to be part of a company building narrative-driven performance

Artists submit through Backstage.
Selected artists will be invited to the in-person audition.

The audition focuses exclusively on movement.
We observe:
physical adaptability
musicality
presence
how artists respond to unfamiliar structure
The method is not taught during auditions.

A smaller group will be invited to callbacks exploring integration with text and voice.
Callbacks are not a casting promise — they are part of an extended evaluation process.

We aim to provide at least two week’s notice for callbacks in recognition of artists’ work schedules.

Alternative Synergy’s training method is not taught in auditions.
For artists interested in understanding the structure and language encountered in the audition, we offer open workshops following the audition cycle.

the debut
ASTC’s inaugural ensemble project, The Debut, crystallized our signature approach to collective storytelling. Sixteen emerging artists across Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island co-created a 90-minute, site-specific production—funded by grassroots backers who raised $10K in under 20 days—that turned raw vulnerability into bold ensemble moments. This milestone launch proved our model: community-powered, risk-driven, and unapologetically authentic.
the myth project
A 90-minute dance-theater fusion preview where movement itself peeled back layers to unveil six protagonists’ hidden truths. Through raw choreographed encounters and an evolving narrative, audiences witnessed identity, connection, and resilience brought to life in an immersive, truth-telling spectacle.
REDEMPTION IS A DANGEROUS THING (in development)
Our most ambitious work to date, Redemption Is a Dangerous Thing is a raw, genre-defying dance-theater experience confronting masculinity, fundamentalism, belief systems, and inherited trauma—through movement, rupture, and narrative. The piece fuses street dance, physical theater, and cinematic storytelling to unpack what we’re taught to bury—and what it costs to reclaim yourself.
